Riverside South
Unlike any other neighborhood on the Upper West Side, Riverside South is completely new. Its clean, wide streets, freshly planted trees and flowers and the sparkling string of immaculately maintained residential properties along the curve of Riverside Boulevard mirror the freshness of the park from which it takes its name.
Riverside South Park, designed by landscape architect Thomas Balsley, is set along the Hudson River at the western edge of the Upper West Side. Mr. Balsley’s design offers local residents lush, thoughtfully planned parkland with natural wood walkways and sun chairs at the water’s edge, picnic tables under sculptural steel pergolas, a fully outfitted children’s playground and cozy benches for two tucked into landscaped nooks. From late spring until early fall an open air cafĂ© at Pier I serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks, and the New York City Parks and Recreation Department organizes a full agenda of events, including live music performances, sunrise yoga, evening movies on Pier I, and a variety of outdoor activities.
